The Last Around the World Ocean Liners |
|||||||
|
Some shipping lines had interests worldwide and so dispatched all or part of their ocean liner fleets on full around the world voyages. Others extended their Europe to Australia services to circle the globe, since the route out via South Africa or the Suez Canal was of about equal distance to the route home via Panama or vice versa. From the 1950s to 1970s some of these lines benefited from the Australian government's subsidized immigration scheme.
